On June 22, 2010, my family and I returned to Jackson Hole Outfitters for another full day of great horseback riding. My two daughters, wife and I had a fantastic time last year and could not wait to again enjoy the “Wilds of Wyoming”. As with our last trip, we were happily greeted by you and after getting our lunch together, we all traveled up to your base camp. This is where the dream began again.
Your camp was well laid out and we were very excited as we mounted up for our adventure. When our guide, Tom, approached we knew we were in good hands. Tom turned out to be one of the nicest and most knowledgeable people we have ever met and under his expert guidance; we immediately ascended into a meadow of beautiful flowers and pines. The journey continued and as we gained elevation, we seemed to go back in time to the old west. The views were so beautiful and the horses so well behaved that we just sat back and enjoyed the ride as we passed by an alpine lake teaming with trout and frequented by several beautiful Western Tanagers.
We traveled onward through rock slides and between towering pines. We didn’t know whether to look up at the snow covered mountains or down at the endless flowers. Tom told us of a previous rider that stayed on the ground most of her trip to take close-up photographs of the amazing flowers. We were similarly transfixed by the variety of colors and shapes we saw while on horseback.
By the time we stopped for lunch, we were completely transformed. We will never forget sitting under a tall pine looking down on a small lake, waiting for a possible glimpse of elk and their young. As a Geologist, I spent most of the lunch break photographing the amazing rock structures and exposures. After lunch we loaded up for the final ascent through an Aspen Tree meadow to a place Tom frequents. It was a sharp incline with exposed and highly weathered dark colored rocks, forming a favorite place for Mule Deer to warm themselves. We saw a few as they fled our noisy approach, but the sights offered by Tom will never be forgotten; the sound of the wind, the distant view of the Tetons, the alpine meadows, the ultimate peacefulness of the place. My Family and I still can’t believe what we saw and experienced.
Tom got us back to the base camp late in the afternoon and we parted ways. But I know we did not fully express our heartfelt gratitude and happiness at having again ridden with your team. So Grant, we want to thank you and Tom again for the best time we’ve ever had, and we hope to return to Jackson Hole Outfitters to experience another trip of a lifetime!
Thanks Again:
